Joanna McKinney
Meet the Principal
Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself
— John Dewey
Joanna McKinney became the Principal of Bingham Farms the fall of 2019. Her professional journey as a secondary math teacher started in Australia before she taught in both Richmond Community Schools and Ortonville Brandon School District. From there, she became a curriculum director/assistant superintendent in the Brandon School District. While she enjoyed the district administrator position, she found that she missed being in the hustle of the school directly with students, so she joined BPS as an assistant principal at Berkshire Middle School, then interim principal at Derby Middle School before finding her home at Bingham Farms.
Principal McKinney holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Central Michigan University and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Oakland University. She and her husband, have three boys who attend the Birmingham Schools. When she is not in a school or attending her children’s events, she enjoys running, is an avid adventure seeker and travels the world. She absolutely loves the Bingham Farms School Community and is so thankful for the diversity that makes Bingham Farms so special.
